1 Corinthians 12:3b-13
In a church our size, it’s easy to think of ministry as the things the staff does. But originally life in the church was about the individual gifts and ways the Holy Spirit worked in the lives of individual believers. As those individual gifts were combined “for the common good” the church changed the world. Not STAFF changing the world. Individual believers aware of, surrendering, and using their gifts in the power of the Holy Spirit changed the world. I think we’ve become too focused on corporate and organizational things when we talk about the church. The church is the hands and feet and heart of Jesus in the world. Our hands. Our feet. Our heart. ALL of us, EACH of us aware of, surrendering and using our gifts in the places where we live, work and play – that’s the church changing Butler; that’s the church changing the world. As you read the following passages, pay attention to how God uses the lives and stories of ordinary people like you and me to change the world.
