Through the prophet God speaks to his people in exile in Babylon. He says, “remember what I did to rescue you from the Egyptians? The way that I destroyed them in the Sea?” And the minute Isaiah said that they would have started thinking, “Oh boy, God’s about to act in some kind of powerful way like he did then! Watch out Babylonians! Your number’s up!” But then God says, “Forget about that. I’m doing something new. It’s not gonna be like it was before. Deliverance is coming for sure. My purpose is moving forward, just not in the way you might expect.” Where does God want to move you and me and us forward in ways we might not be expecting?
